Season of Light In the Darkness

If there is a time when a season of light is more welcomed or needed, it is now. From a mindfulness perspective, we can always shift into the being mode of mind and be with what is right in front of us. There may be light or darkness staring us in the face. The darkness has been bold and glaring this year with Covid 19, racial unrest, political division, families disconnected because of concern for the greater good and grandparent’s health. So many traditions and gatherings have been interrupted or put on hold.

And yet the light is never far from us if we but look just a few degrees to the left or right. We are experiencing the fullness of life-the full catastrophe which includes the light and the dark. Thanksgiving Day ushered forth poems in the New York Times by poet laureates from each state except a few who have not named one yet. I selected the poem from Missouri because it is mindful remembrance to look for the beauty right in front of us amidst the pain and suffering that is also here.

There is reason to be more hopeful with the news of vaccines for the coronavirus on the way in 2021. Oh, how we will party hard when the vaccine arrives for everyone and not just the select few. And in the meantime be on the lookout for the ordinary yet extraordinary light bearers that are everywhere and all around us.

Best wishes and much gratitude for all of you and the light you shine, and if your light is not shining right now just hang out with those who are.
