Mindfulness in Health Care

In December The University of Massachusetts Medical School announced the creation of the Division of Mindfulness. This months edition of Mindful magazine has a really good article about the importance of this decision, as well as the implications for health care and research.

Although there has been a significant increase in the research regarding mindfulness and its potential role in health care this move by UMass supports the notion that there is a need for long term study. The Division of Mindfulness will no doubt lead the way in developing "increasingly more effective treatments". Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this announcement is that it supports a health care system in which the patient is an active participant.
